Home Deep Cleaning: How to Get Your Home Ready the Day Before

· 3 min read · By the Tip Top team

A tidy living room with cleared surfaces, ready for a deep cleaning team

A home deep cleaning service can transform a home in a single day, but how much you get out of it depends partly on the evening before. Fifteen to thirty minutes of preparation means the team spends its time cleaning rather than moving things, and you get exactly the result you wanted. Here's what to do.

The day before: a quick checklist

  1. Clear surfaces. Put away papers, toiletries, toys and ornaments from counters, tables and bathroom shelves. Cleaners can wipe around things, but they can't clean underneath them properly.
  2. Empty the sink and dishwasher. A kitchen deep clean needs a clear sink and worktops.
  3. Pick up the floors. Shoes, bags, cables and laundry baskets get in the way of detailed floor cleaning.
  4. Decide on cupboards. If you want the inside of cabinets or wardrobes cleaned, empty them. If not, tell the team they're off-limits.
  5. Strip the beds if you'd like fresh sheets on afterwards, or if you've booked mattress cleaning.
  6. Put valuables away. Jewellery, cash, documents and anything fragile or sentimental.
  7. Check the water and power. Professional equipment needs both.

To see what the team will work through, look at the complete deep cleaning checklist for UAE homes.

Make a short priority list

Every home has a few spots that bother you most: a greasy hood, limescale on the shower glass, a stained grout line, the guest bathroom before visitors arrive. Write them down and give the list to the team at the start. A good team will work to its checklist and make sure your priorities get extra attention.

Pets

  • Decide where your pets will be during the clean, ideally a room that's done first or last, or out on a walk.
  • Put litter trays, food and water bowls somewhere they won't be knocked over.
  • Tell the team about any pet that's nervous or may try to slip out of an open door.
  • If you'd like pet-odour treatment or grooming at the same visit, mention it when you book.

Tip Top uses low-odour, non-toxic products as standard, so homes with pets and children can carry on as normal once surfaces have dried.

Access and timing

  • Building access: tell your building security or concierge that a cleaning team is coming, and confirm parking for the team's vehicle if your building needs it.
  • Lifts: some buildings need lift bookings for equipment. Check in advance.
  • How long to expect: most apartments take about 3–6 hours; larger villas can take most of a day.
  • Do you need to be home? Not for the whole time, but be there at the start to walk through priorities, and at the end to check the result.

What not to do

  • Don't pre-clean. Tidying is helpful; scrubbing is the team's job.
  • Don't spray your own chemicals on surfaces the day before. Mixing products can be harmful and can stain surfaces.
  • Don't book on the same day as painters or builders. If work is going on, schedule the clean for after it's finished.

At the end of the visit

Walk through the home with the team leader before they leave. Check your priority list and the main rooms. At Tip Top, every job is checked against a room-by-room checklist before handover, and if anything's been missed we re-clean it free.

After the clean

Keep windows open or the AC running for an hour or so while floors and fabrics dry. Then enjoy it. A good deep clean makes everyday upkeep faster for weeks afterwards.
