Pest control
Sharjah Municipality Pest Control or a Private Company? How to Decide
If you've found pests in your Sharjah home, you have two main routes: request help from Sharjah Municipality, or book a private pest control company. Both have their place. This guide explains the difference, so you can pick the one that fits your problem.
What Sharjah Municipality offers
Sharjah Municipality provides a free public-health pest control service for residents. According to the municipality and recent news coverage:
- Requests can be made through the municipality's website or by calling its call centre on 993.
- The service listing states that applicants must be citizens or residents of the city of Sharjah.
- The service has been highlighted for public-health pests such as mosquitoes, especially after rain.
Details such as eligibility, which pests are covered and response times can change. Check the Sharjah Municipality service directory or call 993 for the current process before you apply.
When the municipality service makes sense
- The problem is a public-health pest, such as mosquitoes breeding in standing water near your home.
- The issue affects a shared or outdoor area, not only the inside of your home.
- You're eligible and your timing is flexible.
When a private company makes more sense
- You need it handled quickly or at a specific time, for example before guests arrive or before you move in.
- It's an indoor problem such as cockroaches in the kitchen, bed bugs or ants, where treatment needs to be inside your home and often repeated.
- You need follow-up visits. Bed bugs and established cockroach populations rarely clear in one treatment.
- You want it combined with cleaning. A deep clean after treatment removes droppings, dead insects and the food residue that attracted them.
- You have specific safety needs, such as infants, pets or aquariums, and want to plan the products and timing around them.

Choosing a private pest control company
If you go private, check these before booking (or see how to choose the best pest control service in Sharjah):
- Approval. Sharjah Municipality approves pest control companies. Ask to see the company's municipality approval or licence.
- Inspection first. A good company identifies the pest before quoting, not after.
- Products and safety. Ask what will be used and how long children and pets must stay out of treated rooms.
- Follow-ups. Ask whether follow-up visits are included in the price, and when they happen.
- Aftercare. You should get clear instructions on ventilation, cleaning and re-entry.
Whichever route you take
Treatment works best alongside good habits: sealed food, no standing water, closed bins, and a kitchen that's deep cleaned regularly. Pests come back to homes that keep feeding them.
